Dear Ami,
I saw a movie recently titled ‘Seven Pounds’ directed by Gabriele Muccino, starring Will Smith. While there’s a lot of perspective to the movie, to me, it place on display how far the roots of guilt travel. As the character of Will(Ben) rightly said, “In seven days, God created the world. And in seven seconds, I shattered mine.” Ben did shattered his life. Though he made that statement in respect to him being responsible for the accident that claimed the life of his pregnant wife and six others, I think taking his life and donating parts of his organs to “save” the lives of seven persons as redemption is the ruin.
.
Why?
My dear, not all wrongs can be corrected and even if you burn yourself to death, it doesn’t undo the wrong. But owning what you’ve done wrong and learning to do right changes you. Committing suicide out of guilt isn’t the answer.
.
See, mistake literally means taking the wrong turn or picking up the wrong thing. But the good thing about ‘taking the wrong turn or picking up the wrong thing’ while you can’t always change them is that, you could always turn around and pick up what is right. Find a place in your heart to forgive yourself and live peacefully.
.
Yours always,
La Joya.
